House of Light, by Mary Oliver

inspiring lighthearted reflective fast-paced

5.0

this is the ninth of mary oliver's books and, while it isn't my favourite, i don't think she was capable of releasing a bad collection. there are some heavy hitters in this one, namely 'the summer's day' but as a whole i don't know if it's one i will return to like the swan or dream work, which repeatedly punched me in my emotional solar plexus. as part of a whole, i thinkĀ house of light is most enriching when compared to the rest of oliver's canon, both in conversation with her previous writing, and how she will evolve. there are certain themes which repeat in this collection, certain forms. this is the first time i really paid attention to the way she uses enjambment to enrich her images. i love you mary and i miss you <3
