dark emotional tense fast-paced

3.0

Starting a dark romance series after months and not really a great start but I expected it lol.

To start with, the book is insanely fast-paced, which is usually favourable for me. I say 'usually' because for the first time, I don't think it worked well with the overall story. The romance fell in too quick, the plot twist became too obvious and everything almost happened all at once.

Wendy was quite insufferable. Definitely one of the most naive female MCs I've read. That one scene where she was laughing about her getting stockholme syndrome was crazy LMAO. I did love that she knew her worth and stood up against her awful father. James is the absolute worst. Reda55 flag. I rolled my eyes whenever he said the corniest lines ever, which is every word that came out of his mouth. One good thing about him? He's good with knives, at least.

I feel like the character development definitely could've been better. James trauma could've been explored more too. So basically, I'm trying to say that the characters were blander than I thought. I was glad that the book was only 300+ pages or else I'd be bored out of my mind with these characters. The drama was quite engaging so it's sad that it happened only at the end of the book.

Heard that the next books are way better so I'm pretty excited for that!
