One-Punch Man, Vol. 5: Shining in Tatters by ONE

3.0

This volume had great bonus sections. The fight against the Deep Sea King felt very drawn out and very predictable. Mumen Rider makes up for a charming monologue of his and it serves as satire despite touching my heart.

Update 11 June 2019
With the adoption of my new rating system, a three star rating is befitting. The original rating and review conform to the new rating system. The last chapter was not mentioned but it was of three star quality. It dealt with Saitama and Genos receiving letters, Saitama undergoing a psychoanalysis test, and Mumen Rider being revealed as the writer behind the thank you letter to Saitama. I love scenes with Mumen Rider.

Update
I have read the chapters of this volume on the wiki and find that the positive scenes mentioned in the original review and the update form June 11, 2019, allow for the rating to retain a three star-rating. This volume has, at a minimum, a 2.5 star-rating, which allows for it to retain the three star-rating.

Of the scenes in the last chapter that I mentioned in the update from June 11, 2019, I do not recall enjoying the psychoanalysis test.

The scene of Mumen Rider being beaten down and his speech are at least five star-rated, as I can recall, vividly each time how I was taken away by it, how "he knows better than anyone that he has no chance of beating the Sea King, however, he states that it does not matter if he stands a chance or not, he has to fight him since there is no one else who will" (taken from the wiki).

Update
I have changed the rating type from 2.5GG to 3M, since I now view Mumen Rider's dialogue, while fighting the Sea King, as five star worthy. The first and second chapter of the volume, while serving as buildup for the five star-rated dialogue, are also described as boring in the original review (the second chapter contains the five star-rated dialogue). The third chapter concludes the Sea King fight, of which I would consider two stars, and the final chapter allows for some humor (three stars) of Saitama receiving only negative letters and Mumen Rider and Saitama sharing a meal together after it is revealed that Mumen Rider was the only person who sent a positive letter, the letter being an appreciation letter. The extra chapter receives a three star-rating because of some of the humor and because the original review states that "this volume had great bonus sections", though I am confused why it refers to multiple "bonus sections". I am also not sure if it should reach a four star-rating since great sounds closer to a four star-rating than a three star-rating.

The volume barely reaches a four star-rating at the point of Mumen Rider's dialogue against the Sea King, before falling to around a definite three star-rating by the end because of the final chapter and the extra chapter. The lengthiness of the battles hurt the buildup and the climax of the five star-rated dialogue. The original review was critical of the lengthiness: "The fight against the Deep Sea King felt very drawn out and very predictable". This volume seems to be closer to a three star-rated book than a 2.5 star-rated book.
