The Best of Archie Comics: 75 Years, 75 Stories by Vic Bloom

4.0

I got this book for over 80% discount on Amazon. In comparison to that price, buying the book felt reasonable. Though you can observe variations in the art and story lines over 75 years, it still retains the quintessential Archies charm. My favorite characters have often been Betty and Veronica, therefore I did not enjoy this book because of the central focus is on Archie. What has always made Archie great has often been due to great supporting characters like Mr. Weatherbee, Reggie, Jughead, Cheryl, Sabrina and unsurprisingly, Betty and Veronica. Without the gang, Archie is just an ordinary and unremarkable young teen. The latest version of Archie, by Mark Waid and Fiona Staples seems to have a bit more personality than his earlier avatars. Nonetheless, one will always be aware the seclusive charm of Riverdale will never get old and Archies will always be there to assure you of uncomplicated joys that tend to escape our own complex realities.
