Come Home by Lisa Scottoline

3.0

My first Lisa Scottoline books and it was OK. Not terrible, but not fantastic either. Each of the characters annoyed me in some way or other: Jill because she doesn't have boundaries, has some stalker tendencies, claims she never stopped loving her step-daughters and yet she didn't really make an attempt to explain her divorce from their father, oh and how many times can she announce to everyone that she is a DOCTOR? Sam, Jill's fiance, doesn't seem to know what he wants
Spoiler throughout the book he keeps saying that he wants nothing to do with Victoria or Abby, Jill's ex step-daughters, but of course, in the end, in order to present a nice ending, he is all on board with them and wants Jill to have a relationship with them
Abby and Victoria weren't all that great either. Victoria was just a bitch to everyone (and with some people she had no reasons whatsoever to be this bitchy)

The mystery itself was somewhat weak, but I did like that some portions of the book took place in my backyard (sort of). Hoboken is very familiar to me, as is a drive from Philadelphia to Northern Jersey. That was a nice surprise.
Spoiler Abby believes that her father and Jill's ex-husband, William, was murdered. Police believe that his death was because he mixed medications with alcohol. While trying to convince Abby that she is wrong, Jill is slowly investigating it. Turns out, William had a secret identity and a secret life in which he was selling insider information about drugs that are about to be recalled by the FDA. The pharmaceutical company where he was getting his information from was also doing some shitty things and not reporting all of the complaints from the patients to the FDA (in order to avoid or minimize recalls).
