The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
4.0
I am a person who watched the movie before reading the book, sorry!
With that being said, I went into this with the thought of the book being the source of truth. I am so glad I got to read this book. The book gave so much insight into who Bilbo is as a character and hobbit. I do wish that the book gave more connections and descriptions of the dwarves. Where the book failed in that aspect, the movie did make up for it. There were 12 and I can only really tell you things about 4.
My favorite characters included: Bilbo Baggins and Beron. Bilbo was a funny character and Beron was also very entertaining. The author and narrator did a great job of describing these characters. While Beron did not have a lengthy portion of the plot compared to other characters, Beron was fully realized.
My least favorite characters: None really were my least favorite.
I would recommend this story to folks who are in a reading slump. Easy to digest, puts a smile on your face, and then also keeps you on your toes.
4/5 - would be a 5/5 if there were more descriptions and moments that dove deeper into the dwarves' characteristics and background.
