This Is Your Time by Ruby Bridges

"don't be afraid. this is your time in history. keep your eyes on the prize. and at all costs, stay united."

ruby bridges is a phenomenal person. even just reading this short book, set for juvenile readers, you can see her character, her spirit and her strength. i feel that i do not have words strong enough or good enough to portray how important this book is.

ruby's time as the first black student at an all-white school truly was not that long ago. people think that by distancing themselves from uncomfortable points in history that it puts more time between then and the present.

no, that is not the case. ruby bridges is only 66 years old. she out-lived all four of my grandparents, and is only a decade or so older than my own parents. the civil rights movement was not that long ago, and america time and time again proves that there is still so much more ground to make up.

but it can be done, so long as you take those steps.
