Cheat the Grave by Vicki Pettersson

3.0

When I finished the previous book I threw it across the room. I was so frustrated with how the story went I swore I wouldn't go back. Time has passed, I've mellowed a bit about it and the series is just about over so I thought I'd give it another chance. I didn't throw anything this time! Jo/Olivia has been dealing with her mortality and trying to deal with her new world outside of the troop. Their betrayal and Hunter's loss leave her wounded and insecure. In an interesting twist it turns out she doesn't have to give up on the world of Light and Shadow after all. She finds some unexpected new allies, develops some nifty new skills and starts to figure out a new, kickass path. There are some revelations about Hunter and her mom, Zoe, that were fascinating! I still don't quite see the same magic in the series that I did at the start but I enjoyed the read and will certainly stick around to watch the end unfold.
