I absolutely fell in love with A Good Girl's Guide to Murder from the moment I read the first page, so I was super eager to pick up the prequel once I'd heard about it! In this novella we follow our main character Pip as she tries to solve another fictional murder at a friend's murder mystery party. While it was a fun idea, and it was interesting seeing how Pip got inspired to take on the murder of Andie Bell as her senior capstone project, I wouldn't say that this is "required reading" for the series as a whole. I didn't find myself as engrossed with the "mystery" in this one as I was in AGGGTM, and I didn't connect with Pip as much as I would've liked to (at times she got really over-the-top and annoying - she definitely wouldn't be fun at parties 😛). I do recommend picking this up if you're looking for a fast read and are a fan of Holly Jackson, or YA mysteries in general!
