A Whaler's Dictionary by Dan Beachy-Quick

4.0

1. I read this from front to back. (That's a lie, I read 80 percent of this front to back.) It's a good dictionary. I read it wrong.
2. Crucial text regarding moby-dick, if only for it's willingness to get very strange and very imaginative. Seemed to me more interpretive than analytical, which was fine.
3. I wish it had been pared down. Rough-shod one page entries would do well to be incorporated in other entries. But then maybe it's my fault that I find redundancy in entries about whales when the book is titled "A Whaler's Dictionary". Beachy-Quick has a lot to say, but still finds times to be redundant. (see- "Madness, Maddened" and "Lower Layer").
4. good book. moby-dick is still perfect. absolutely enhanced by this book and its author.
