The Sacred and Profane Love Machine by Iris Murdoch

4.0

Solid Murdoch with more plot than usual. She is the best of all time at fiction that studies human morals and behavior. An adulterous psychologist's secret love child comes to light, and the book highlights how each of the people in his (the psychologist’s) life handles the situation: his neighbor, a famous writer who has helped him through his deception; his son, who hates the new kid; his mistress, who loses her leverage; and his wife, who tries to handle it with goodness, yet control.
