Arctic Dreams: Imagination and Desire in a Northern Landscape by Barry Lopez

5.0

Fields of study touched upon in this book: Anthropology, Ethnography, Zoology, Ecology, Geography, Demography, Philosophy, and Theology. As such, there is a lot of content to process and absorb while reading here (for me, most easily done with several Arctic maps handy on my iPad). I think the parts of this book I most enjoyed reading were the author's musings upon the unique character and dignity of the Arctic, and the role the land played in shaping who he is as a person.

I've wanted to visit the Canadian Arctic for a long time (probably since I read [b:Two Against the North] in elementary school), and this reading this book has only renewed that desire. It has also reminded me to pay more attention to federal policy and industrial development in the area!

A terrific and inspirational read.
