Bear Came Along by Richard T. Morris

5.0

I can see why this received a Caldecott Honor: the story was well-done, the illustrations are great, and together they make the book even better. Be sure to read the author and illustrator notes; they could lead to a good discussion with children. I kept staring at the faces of the animals; how can Pham make them so expressive yet so simple? And, although there were some colorful pages throughout the book, at the conclusion, the colors seem joyful on the closing page. (and I still have a soft spot for illustrations that are done the "old-fashioned way.")
