THIS BOOK ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
The only thing better than this book is knowing she’s got *5 more* planned for this series.

After reading the War of Lost Hearts, I was very excited to read Carissa’s new book. She is a master at writing strong female characters who are complicated and layered. No pick me, “not like other girls” here. They truly are extraordinary, but their actions do all the talking.

This book gave me every emotion. I laughed, I ooh’ed and awed, I was nervous and excited, I was hot and bothered, I was shocked and heartbroken. Not necessarily in that order. The story was so smooth— great bursts of action broken up by glimpses of character development and back story. The action scenes were vivid and concise, something I really appreciated (I hate when a fight scene goes on and on and on). The plot twists in the end were really well executed. I felt surprised, yet it all made sense because of previous plot points. There was so much interesting world building provided, and I cannot wait to see how it expands in the next books.

The characters are all so complex and morally gray that you feel torn on who to root for. The two MCs get a lot of page time, but so do the side characters that shine in their own way. The romance was slow and tension filled and absolutely delicious. No fade to black here!

Thank the gods she’s a fast writer because I cannot wait for book two!! Discovering her works has been the highlight of my bookish 2022.
