This book was both shocking and engrossing, yet I think that Stephen Chbosky's writing style fell a little flat at times for me. While it is like you are the friend that "Charlie" is writing to, and you do empathize with Charlie strongly, there are moments when I found it hard to believe in Charlie's age level as certain times it read as though it was written by someone much much younger than 15, even with the difficult emotional experiences that Charlie is going through. If you are reading this book, you most likely know the trigger warnings but do watch out for the content because this book does not shy away from somewhat graphic/shocking events that may be triggering for certain individuals.
Graphic: Alcoholism, Drug abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, and Suicide
Moderate: Addiction, Child abuse, Death, and Domestic abuse
Minor: Adult/minor relationship, Body shaming, and Abortion
