Who wrote this? I own every single one of Michelle Moran's books - she's one of my favorite authors. Did she hire a ghostwriter to meet a deadline? The writing in this is way below her standards.
SpoilerAlso, as a side note, I had trouble with Mata Hari as a person. Knowing her first husband had syphilis and her children were likely born with congenital syphilis, I was pretty grossed out with how many men she was sleeping with. I don't have a problem with promiscuity in general, it's just a different story when someone is knowingly spreading around an STD. I don't know. Maybe the mercury poisoning that killed her son worked on her. Either way, gross.
