The Third to Die by Allison Brennan

4.0

The FBI’s Mobile Response Team is new — and not even fully staffed. FBI Special Agent in Charge, Matt Costa, is picky about who he trusts. But sometimes waiting is not an option.

Sent out on his first case, Costa travels from Washington, D.C. to Spokane, Washington, where FBI has located what seems to be a serial killer.

But this serial killer is unusual. He tends to kill in threes. He has an obsession with threes. He kills on March 3, 6, and 9, every three years. Yet there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason to the victims he chooses.

At least, until Matt and his team begin investigating.

For those of you who have followed any of my book reviews, it’s pretty clear that I’m a big fan of Allison Brennan. But even still, this is a brand new series with absolutely no crossover with any of her previously formed characters or histories.

And there is so much potential for this series to be huge.

A series that is centered around a Mobile Response Team allows Brennan to have her characters go anywhere in the country, take on any case imaginable, and interact with any and all of her previously crafted characters. There are endless possibilities.

And the raw characterization that flooded each page of this book proves to readers just how successful FBI SAC Matthew Costa will be.
-----
With stubborn local police officers, Costa has his job cut out for him — until he gets them on board, anyway. Additionally, there seems to be a rebel cop on “vacation” in Spokane, but Costa doubts that Detective Kara Quinn even understands the true meaning of the word vacation.

That being said, excellent detective work brings them closer to the Triple Killer than they have ever been in the past, and Costa and Quinn cannot wait to stop the cruel and heartless individual who seems to have no qualms about killing nurses, educators, and cops.

He must be stopped. And Costa refuses to let anyone else get hurt in the process. Will they catch him before it’s too late?

An excellent first book of the series, Brennan’s Mobile Response Team collection will be a hit.
