Cyclops, Vol. 1: Starstruck by Greg Rucka

4.0

Okay, okay, so maybe I don't hate Scot Summers/Cyclops, even though even this version of him has hints of self-righteousness that are annoying. It's easier to swallow, though, since this is a story about a teenage Cyclops, so some bratiness and angst are in order.

This book basically had me won over after the first two pages, which had interesting layouts and the words SPACE PIRATE. While this is cheesy, it's super a super fun father-son space road trip with just enough father-son bonding and personal regret to glue it together. I also enjoyed the colorful drawings of the different galactic locales.

(In full disclosure, I'm currently reading too many serious things, one of which is Cormac McCarthy's The Road, so my favorable rating is likely influenced by encountering not only some relief from generally dark stories, but also reading a happier father-son story in particular.)
