The Brendan Voyage by Tim Severin

I got this after going on a coracle-building course, as the boat is really a coracle with sails, built to medieval standards.

If you like boats, as I do, then it's terrific.  You learn a lot about the design and building, and then are guided through weeks of Atlantic hell that the crew simply deal with.  Wow.

It was published in the 70's and might look different today; it need a better map, or maps, which help you make better sense of the progress.  I know a lot of nautical terminology, but a full glossary would certainly improve matters.  these are things that reprints could deal with easily.

I learned a lot about ancient Irish history, too.  I'm persuaded by the arguments (are their any opponents?).
