“Your spirit will shed its weight as well, its frame will ache, its eyes will dim. You’d be a fool to think your spirit is beyond the reach of thirst and hunger. Nothing is.”

A book written with prose that grips you by the throat. I think premise-wise this was interesting, and sort of achieved what it was setting out to do, but nothing every really gave me a sense of excitement or anticipation I expect at least once in something like this. The interpretation of the Devil here was pretty believable and frightening, because it’s just a man. And he’s still evil. I hated being in his head.

Already put in the warnings but there’s a graphic rape scene at the end. That didn’t really help in leaving the last part of the story something to be satisfied with. Too gratuitous in my opinion. The last few chapters ending how it did made me really disappointed and changed how I originally felt reading. Beautiful writing and execution all the way through, I will say. That’s 90% of the reason I’m giving it a 3.
