Family Tree Volume 1: Sapling by Jeff Lemire

2.0

I don't read a lot of graphic novels but every once in awhile I want to give one a try, and when I saw Family Tree, Vol. 1: Sapling by Jeff Lemire and Phil Hester available for review the concept intrigued me. This series features a young girl who starts to transform into a tree and her family, rushing to save her, while others try to hunt her down. It's definitely a cool idea, but even though this volume includes the first four issues, it just barely starts to introduce the story and there are a lot more questions than answers.

Family Tree, Vol. 1: Sapling has a lot of violence and not much content or character development. The illustrations were okay but not particularly memorable. I think that this series could get more interesting as it progresses, but based on volume 1 there wasn't really enough there to leave me wanting to read more.

Disclosure: I received a digital copy of this book for review.
