The first thing you should know is that there are two versions of this novella. It was re-released in 2017. Fated Mates Podcast calls them Version A (original) and B (revised). I read the revised edition; many of the #IADBiteMe group read the original, and in conversations this week, I actually worried that I had missed things because of how version A readers talked about Nikolai and I went back and reread parts of it. Despite the fact that Cole didn’t change many words, the overall impression is very different. The scenes are aggressive, but it felt clear to me that both parties were eager participants, whereas the A version reads more like assault. (Thank @plottrysts for sharing a couple pages of A with me!)

That said, Nikolai still isn’t my favorite Wroth brother. He came in at the bottom of my Wroth rankings. While I think he and Myst are well-suited, the novella length honestly doesn’t allow a good arc to get to know the characters other than as the stuffy oldest Wroth who is aggressive in the bedroom.
