Under the Dome by Stephen King

3.0

It was a very slow read. I was also reading it during the start of the semester, so that took a while longer, but it's just very slow paced. It got interesting in the last 100-200 pages of the story, but other than that there were just a few interesting, fast paced moments every now and then. Several times I did gasp out loud at the shock, and sometimes the gore.
It's a largely character driven story, and I highly enjoyed that aspect of the novel. There were characters I loved, characters I absolutely despised, and characters that were just okay. I grew to love even someone of the most minor characters, however. Even the little puppies of the story.
The ending/solution to the main plot was subpar. I didn't exactly enjoy the "big reveal." It was pretty lackluster, and honestly not even revealed in a notable way. You'd think something like a huge plot reveal in a 1000+ page novel would be a big moment, but not really.

Overall, my time reading this was just okay. However, now that I've finished the novel I probably won't be able to stop thinking about it for a while. The characters and stories of said characters will stick with me. King really does know how to write realistic characters.
