Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

3.0

Okay so, I'm not really going to bother with a proper review, because this isn't the kind of book I usually read and because I only read it to get myself out of the reading slump I've been in for the past five months.

Here's a bit of background: I had bought this book years ago when I used to read straight, historical romances. I never read it though, and then the series came out on January. I enjoyed it for what it was, though I couldn't help but also be critical of it (but that's a different subject).

So, I watched the series and decided perhaps it was time to read this one even though I've not read any of the other books in the series. Having some context from the TV show made it a lot easier.

It was so heteronormative that I wanted to puke at times. Maybe the fact that it was translated in Greek didn't help its case either. I understand the book takes place within a certain historical context, and obviously I'm not the target audience, but it's still true. The MC was perhaps the only enjoyable thing about this, because the love interest was stale and boring, even if we had his POV as well.

I'm not even going to talk about the explicit sexual scenes. Partly because Greek translations of smut scenes always make me cringe, so it wouldn't be fair on the book or the author.

Anyways, I'm giving this book three stars because it was quick, kinda enjoyable as I was laughing at all these white cisgender heterosexual people, and because it's the first book I managed to read after a while.
