A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy by Alexandra Bracken

4.0

My 8 year old had to check out an audio book for part of a summer reading challenge at our library - and thankfully, she chose this one!! Because they're CDs, really the only place she can listen is in the car with me. Instead of dreading being in the car with her, I was so glad I got to hear this! Yes, it's a retelling of Episode IV A New Hope, but it wasn't just the same old, same old. Since you were inside their heads (vs just watching a movie without internal dialogue), you got way more information on why they did things and how they were feeling. A definite plus for me! When Leia was being tortured and Alderaan was destroyed, my daughter really FELT it. She commented how hard that must have been and how sad it was. It was nice to hear how she was emphasizing with the characters like that. Definitely worth a listen - and I'd imagine the read. Narrators and sound effects were well done (after you get used to them not being Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, lol.)
