A Thousand Beginnings and Endings by Elsie Chapman, Ellen Oh

4.0

Some of the folktales were really well adapted and written. I liked how much diversity and interesting folk stories I got to read. Fairy tales have been my favourite form of short stories since ever, and I am so glad that such a conscious initiative was taken to compile an anthology with only eastern folktales and stories.

However, some stories just missed the mark - either they were too contemporary, or they weren’t substantive enough. I liked all the author notes at the end, and the informative background on each of the stories, but some stories didn’t do justice to their source folk tale.

Although, the really do make for some good bed time stories!
