The Grand Ruin: Lance & Scarlet, Part One by J.C. Hawke

5.0

The Grand series in it’s entirety is just fantastic and this one is no exception. I love getting to see more of our favourite characters from previous books as they make appearances through this one. The timeline follows the Grand Lies/Grand Love books (except through Scarlet and Lance’s perspectives) so if you haven’t read those first, you may find some of the narrative surrounding Mason and Nina kind of odd.
I was not prepared for Lance Sullivan. I was intrigued by him in earlier books and love how Hawke wrote him as a troubled bad boy who is secretly mushy and romantic. His edge and family history made him a complex character and the way he falls head over heels for Scarlet is delightful.

Ending on a cliffhanger is rough but we knew it was happening so I’m just going to not so patiently wait for The Grand Rise.

Tropes- Grumpy/sunshine, he falls first, brother’s best friend, secret relationship, found family
