Sauron Defeated: The History of The Lord of the Rings, Part Four by Christopher Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien

4.0

Very interesting to see the evolution of the text from Tolkein’s first versions, especially of the Epilogue which he cut out almost entirely.
Also interesting for the Notions Club discussion: a fictional writers’ group (like the Inklings) discussing one writer’s text and its relatedness to HG Wells’ The First Men in the Moon. This obviously refers to Lewis’ Out of the Silent Planet. I read the Wells book just recently and it’s fascinating to read Tolkein’s take on the 2 books.
