Extras by Scott Westerfeld

3.0

I know I am probably going to be in the minority in saying this one was one of my favorites in the series. This 4th book can be a stand-alone as well as spin-off from the Uglies series. And I think Westerfeld did a good job at making it both. But I do think it will be enjoyed better if you read the Uglies series.

This book does include characters from the first 3 books but they aren't the main characters of the book. The central character is Aya Fuse. The society is set in Japan post-bubblehead. Fame is the most important thing. One way to get high "face ranks" (fame) is to "kick" a story to become known. And Ayay is trying hard to rise up and become famous. And with that fame of course comes other consequences that aren't all that fun.

The Uglies series is a very quick read with an interesting plot line.
