A Death in Door County by Annelise Ryan

2.0

Considering the book takes place in my home state and at a location I enjoy traveling too, I was very excited for this one. Unfortunately, I don’t think the author did a great job of capturing the feel of Door County, other than referencing a few locations and talking about Lake Michigan a lot (which is excused given the plot, but still). Also, the mystery aspect was a bit of a let down, as it mostly spun its wheels in the mud most of the novel, with no lightbulb moments along the way, and then the protagonist essentially stumbles across the truth rather than deducing it, which makes you feel, as the reader, that there was no way to guess the result. It’s not a bad book, and it hits the niche of cozy romance/mystery, but it’s not one that I would recommend.
