Having loved Lord's previous book in this universe I was really disappointed by this one. The style didn't gel for me, the story dragged and meandered focussing on political details and indirect information. It took me at least 40% of the book to get into it, and required me restarting after leaving my initial attempt too long.

Content Warnings

Moderate: Forced institutionalization and Xenophobia

It's questionable how forced the institutionalisation is and it is relatively quickly escaped. It does begin the book, however. The Xenophobia present is difficult for me to quantify to an Earth scale, but present somewhat regularly.
