The Stars and the Blackness Between Them by Junauda Petrus

5.0

It spoke to my spirit and I wish something like it had been around when I was the age of the MC's Audre and Mabel. It's black af. It's spiritual. It's witchy. It's real and realistic. It's wholesome and pure. I think the last time a book touched me like this was The Coldest Winter ever by Sista Souljah and I read that in middle school I believe. Even though poetry isn't really my thing, the astrology poems sprinkled throughout this book were on point. One criticism I have is that the ending was a bit too tidy...and that may just be because I wasn't ready for it to be over.
