The White Rose by Amy Ewing

4.0

I feel like this book suffers from second book syndrome. The first was unique and dug deep into some serious problems, but this one definitely seemed a lot more typical YA dystopian. They are running away and fighting and it is all very mundane. I enjoyed the romance, but there wasn't enough of it. I wish the author had uncovered more about the characters' painful pasts. Ewing has a great colorful line up of characters- a male prostitute, a few forced surrogates, a eunuch, a few spoiled rich kids- but we don't get to explore too far into their characters and I really wish she had done so!
