The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter

  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No

3.0

I expected to like this a lot more based on where it was recommended to me, but I found it kind of boring, lots of meaningless fight scenes. The main character isn’t likeable OR interesting, and my biggest issue is that the most interesting character
dies at the end
. It’s supposed to be a more matriarchal society but all the women either exist as love interests for the main character lack depth, and mostly, are nonexistent. I think the story could have been a lot better if there was something I could have really CARED about, but the emotions/relationships of the characters, the plot progression, and the overall society problems just didn’t have enough depth to them to pull me in and make me care about the outcomes. Maybe I felt there wasn’t much of a plot? Like what was the goal? And then of course,
the only character I felt had depth to her just randomly dies at the end, presumably to make way for the only other female character in the book to be the main character’s love interest instead.
Also, for something titled “The Rage of Dragons”, there weren’t really any dragons central to the book. Just didn’t deliver what I felt like it promised. But I didn’t hate reading it, it’s okay, just sort of medium.
