The Players: Poems by Jill Bialosky

5.0

The language is abstract without being obtuse, probably aided by a familiar subject matter. While the cover implies "baseball poems," the sport stands mostly as a fleeting symbol that gets spun off into other subject matter. The tone comes across as a third party observer, hovering over a timeline of lives, fully feeling each members' perspective, even the inanimate members. A slim, delightful book that I hope to return to again.
