This series brings me so much joy. Even though we have 3 couples and legions of rebels risking it all to bring down the evil Queen Levana. MEYER's books are so full of light, cute, humorous, fangirly moments. Not only do they lighten the impending doom, they keep you heartedly flipping the pages through the meaty intertwining story.

Captain Thorne gets to scratch his hero itch, since Cinder is solidly pining over Kai. And Cress needs a saving. Poor thing trapped in a satellite by herself for years forced to do the evil bidding of the only human in contact with her. Her solitude has given her plenty of time to follow the buzz surrounding Thorne and fall for her Knight in Shining Armor before he even arrives. Cress's naivete and Thorne's larger than life persona and snark make for a fun-filled romantic addition to the Lunar Chronicles.

Cinder takes the reigns of her story back and directs much of the course of CRESS. When Cress's rescue separates our parties, their stories arc and puzzle pieces start to slowly fall into place. They feverishly work to get answers leading them first to Africa and then the Moon. The stage has been set and I anticipate even more action as the LUNAR CHRONICLES turns into a full scale revolution. WINTER get here soon.

I decided to wait for the audiobook, though I had a hard copy of the book. I started the series in audio and it was way more animated than anything PIXAR could have envisioned. REBECCA SOLER is back on the job in CRESS. At first, it took me a while to get back into the book. Cinder and Cress sounded similar enough that it was hard to pull their stories apart in the beginning, but it didn't take too long for the characters to get reset in my head. SOLER brings MARISSA's story and these characters to life, like no one else could. She expertly applies naivete, lightness, excitement and fierceness to our heroines. Her Iko is beyond words. It's like pop rocks to my ears, full of electric exuberance. Her males are distinct and carry their burdens audibly. Thorne brings all the swoons of Hans Solo & Captain Mal rolled into one.
