I really wanted to like this one, but I didn't very much. The best parts was the incorporation of magical realism and Haitian vodou culture, and Fabiola's feelings of missing her mom and Haiti when she's alone in this strange new place. But I was really turned off by almost all the other characters--her cousins are always talking about how important family is, but they're kind of terrible to Fabiola.
