The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas

3.0

This novel was very clever, the way that it folds in on itself, the way that time travel is presented and the impact that it has on the lives of travelers and emus (normals) alike. But I almost feel like it was too clever for itself, like it took itself far too seriously. So much effort has been put into the science, making time travel real and complex, that I actually feel like it takes away from the story, leaving me confused with the ending rather than satisfied by how everything is resolved.

I loved the way it was written, the short chapters that pushed me onwards, the intrigue and the different perspectives. But I've finished the book and don't want to know more. I want to understand what I've read better, but am not wondering how the characters lives continue and develop. The questions I have are confusing rather than enticing. In the same way that I felt my recent read of 'The Eyre Affair' went over my head, I feel lost in the world of time travel. But unlike Fforde's novel, I don't feel like a read of Jane Eyre will fix my confusion. Maybe a degree in Physics would though!
