The Good American: The Epic Life of Bob Gersony, the U.S. Government's Greatest Humanitarian by Robert D. Kaplan

A friend recommended this book to me because I had worked in the international development field and had some knowledge of some of the countries Gersony worked in.  I found his story fascinating and his courage perseverance and raw honesty compelling.  His influence on humanitarian assistance in war-torn and disaster zones is unequaled. This book captures all this and more.
