Elena Vanishing: A Memoir by Elena Dunkle, Clare B. Dunkle

3.0

My librarian knows how much I love books about eating disorders. It was only natural for her to put this aside for me when it came in. I was excited because it was on my tbr list and I love getting that list down. I don't love this book.

It was good... in the last 80 or something pages. It was ok all throughout. I just couldn't get into the book and I understand that it was meant to be from her POV but her mindset on her sickness really conflicted with the story and left me lost. She was in and out a lot and so we missed important information from when she blacked out. Also the time would skip majorly. Like one chapter would say 2 or 3 months later and that's a big jump and it just didn't flow smoothly.

But as you get towards the end and she's coming to terms with her sickness it really is a tear-jerker. I was very upset and had a lot of tissues on my floor. It almost came to the point where I was sobbing. But then the book was over.

This book left me emotionally withdrawn toward the very end but that doesn't mean it wasn't a very informational read. You're able to experience highs and lows of anorexia through the sick person's eyes. I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it.
