Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paige Toon
4.0
When Wren's fiance leaves her for someone else, she has to get away. She decides to visit her father, stepmother and step sister who live on a farm in Indiana, hoping that the distance will help to heal her broken heart. When a drunken night leads to her unexpectedly meeting Anders, Wren cannot deny that she is attracted to him. Anders seems to keep his cards close to his chest and Wren is sure that sometimes she feels he is attracted to her too, but why can't he allow himself to fall for her?
I enjoyed this one! Paige Toon is brilliant at describing environments, locations and food so I always get a good feel for where the book is based when I am reading one of her novels. I enjoyed the farm, the peaches and the cosy, rustic atmosphere I was absorbed in.
The other thing I know I can expect from a Paige Toon book is the unexpected! As with a lot of her other novels, the twist hit me out of nowhere, shocked me and left me crying. What a beautifully tragic storyline and it was handled so delicately. Obviously I won't go into spoiler territory but it ripped my heart out and left me asking so many questions about morals and what I would do in either character's shoes.
A lovely read with a heart breaking twist, I thought this was great.
