This is a re-read for me - every few years I come back to the characters from Barbary lane. It's a beautiful story about a group of people who build their lives and love in San Francisco. It's a bit of a time capsule, capturing the lives of queer people right before the AIDS epidemic rears its head. Not all of the characters are loveable - some are downright deplorable, but that's what makes for an interesting read.
The story was originally published as a serial, so the chapters are quick and easy to speed through.
I listened to the audio book read by Frances McDormand and highly recommend.
