Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

3.0

I’d like to apologize to everyone on my Goodreads in advance as unfortunately I did read this book and even more unfortunately I will be reading more of them.

Listen. Once you get past the big blue alien thing it’s like…not that bad. I don’t know, maybe I’ve been reading too many cookie cutter romcoms lately and this one was just soooo different and I am such a sci-fi and smut girly that it really just kinda had it all for me. It’s got the ridiculous tropes, the space travel, the harsh alien planet, the smut scenes. Honestly the world building? Really good like quite an interesting world we got here. It does really buy into the “big man is the manly man and he protect small fragile weak woman” BUT it also was very heavy on the “big manly man is absolutely obsessed with small woman and she holds literally all the emotional and mental power in the relationship and big manly man is whipped af” so I am ok with it, balance.

Only thing for me was the first part of the book really needs to come with a HUGE TW. That shocked me honestly, here I thought I was reading a silly alien smut book but the book starts out just really quite shocking and graphic with a depiction of SA. I am not doing spoilers because I want people who are thinking of reading this to know that there is a SA scene early in the book and it was extremely difficult to read. Like this book truly starts out kinda super awful and scary so please use caution.
