It's been a little while since I gave one of the Oz books five full stars, but this one got me! As with Tik-Tok of Oz, the title didn't really fit this book, but I don't even care this time! The Scarecrow didn't show up until the last 50 or so pages, but he did end up coming in to save the day so I sorta get it.
This book, I feel, really got back to the roots of how The Wizard of Oz was initially written: quick, exciting adventures, lots of new and silly characters and places, and a fair amount of quick wit. I read it in one sitting. I'm now about two-thirds of the way through the main series and still have every intention of continuing on to the end!
