I haven't read the Eragon series in over ten years, and I didn't re-read it before starting this (it just seemed too long!), so I wasn't sure how much I was going to enjoy Murtagh. I was pleasantly surprised! While not remembering a lot of the original series, I do remember Murtagh being by far the most interesting character, and this holds up here. I think it was a great choice to feature him as a protagonist. He's a fascinating mix of honourable and good-hearted, along with a healthy does of arrogance and violence. And his dragon Thorn - I loved him, especially since he had his own flaws to work through. Overall, this was like putting a comforting jumper one - a familiar epic fantasy tale. And I really, really, loved how it ended.
