The Woman in Me by Britney Spears
It is not my place to rate this woman's story but I am glad to have read it. This isn't a piece you read because of the literary prowess but to be able to hear a woman get her voice back. There are substantive critiques of the writing, the rambling, the way she bounces around and a general "stream of consciousness" style of storytelling. There are probably plenty of questions left unanswered, holes in the narrative while there are odd details included that don't seem to add.
This isn't a book you read for the writing. It is a book you read to show support of an author, a victim of trauma, exploitation and abuse the people in her life who were supposed to love her. Read it for perspective and empathy. Heck, read it to know you are better off in the life you lived. I genuinely hope that, through her experience, big changes will come to how conservative ships are started and maintained.
