The Blur, by Minh Lê

4.0

This lovely, heartwarming picture book follows a girl from infancy through her high school graduation, comparing her childhood milestones to superhero tropes. The text is clever and engaging, and the illustrations are glorious, with lots of expressive emotions, details, and continuity throughout the story.
SpoilerI love that the stuffed lion was riding in the backseat when she left for college.

If someone is specifically looking for a superhero-oriented baby book, they should know that this mainly focuses on children's milestones and the blur of parenting, not actual superhero activities. However, this book is incredibly sweet, and the wonderful Asian representation will make it especially meaningful to some readers.

This book would make a great gift for new parents or a graduating high school senior. It could also be a gift for the parents of a high school senior, if you want them to dissolve into tears! I really enjoyed this, and will keep it in mind as a future reading recommendation and gift possibility.
