I am going to open this review with an extra content warning: the descriptions of violence, murder, torture, and rape in this book are numerous and extremely graphic. 90% of it is directed towards women. If any of those triggers or deeply disturbs you, I would skip this book. I was definitely not prepared when I started reading it.
That being said, this is one of the best thrillers I have read in a long time. This was my first time reading a book by Karin Slaughter, but I am going to make a point to pick up others by her. The story takes so many twists and turns, but unlike many thrillers, I found myself right with her at every turn. I tore through this book in less than a day, and though there were times I did feel it was lagging slightly, it wasn't enough to make me lose interest in the plot or in the book as a whole.
