When We Were Very Young by A.A. Milne

4.0

I thought this was a lovely collection of poems explicitly for children and by this, I mean that it was very obvious that each one, composed by Milne, was done for his son Christopher Robin. I think this brings a very personal and warm feeling to the collection some of which are about the monarchy, others about childhood (independence and disobedience) and others are a little nonsensical. As with any collection of poems, there are those that I prefer over others. I enjoyed: Brownie, Nursery Chairs (lovely use of imagination), Daffodowndilly and Rice Pudding. Each poem is illustrated so wonderfully by Shepard and the appearance of Pooh at the end was a welcome plus!
