The thing about translations is that you always miss the idiomatic phrasing of the original --no matter how good the translator is. Unfortunately my German is virtually non-existent --I recall I once tried reading Kafka's Der Process in the original language, an endeavour I had to cut short after it took me more than a week to read the first page, dictionary in hand.
And I don't have a clue why I'm writing this in English.
So yes, this is a well balanced book, with a nice plot, devoid of forced surprises, but keeping the urge to read constant. One could do much worse.
